In two weeks, almost 500 people have
visited Pasquale Fontana’s MySpace.com/dreamnoveau
page advertising his debut CD Dream Noveau, Nowhere,
Now Here.
The album, written
and produced here in Kamloops, will be released
around the world this weekend, but it’s already
drumming up a buzz in places as far away as
Scandinavia.
“The Internet is an
incredibly powerful way of reaching people,” said
the longtime independent artist.
“You couldn’t do that
in the past with music. You’d have to be signed to
have that kind of exposure.”
Fontana, who spent a
decade touring with cover bands, recently decided to
make his own original music and get off the bus and
onto the web to promote it.
Tired of touring, he
said his new album, which features 14 original
songs, will be mostly promoted online and with a few
local shows.
Written away from the
road and busy nights playing in bar rooms, Fontana
said he found he was more creative than he’s ever
been musically with Dream Noveau, Nowhere, Now Here.
“It’s like having a
blank landscape and coming in with colour and
creating,” he said.
Influenced by the
likes of KISS and Led Zeppelin, Fontana said his
sound is rock ‘n roll, but with lots of melody.
“I’m a guitar player.
I write from a guitar perspective and I like to
layer different guitar sounds,” he said.
“For me, my songs
have an edge with guitar.”
Recorded with the
help of local musicians and friends Laura Bishop,
Mike Braniff and Gord Weeks, Fontana said there’s
also a level of comfort on the album.
“I really believe
music is a gift that people do share,” Fontana said,
adding after all these years he’s not looking to
sign a major record deal.
“It’s really about
pure enjoyment,” he said.
“It’s a dream come
true.”
Dream Noveau,
Nowhere, Now Here will be released throughout the
weekend at various websites, including iTunes,
Amazon.com and CD Baby.
